Reventador: December 4-5, 2007

This wasn't a birding trip, rather another volcano ascent; however, passing through pristine stretches of Eastern lowland forest, I witnessed several spectacular birds, including the Squirrel Cuckoo, Highland Motmot, and Inca Jay.  After the two-day ascent of the resurgent cone of Reventador, we visited a Cock-of-the-Rock lek early the next morning and then the San Rafael falls, enjoying a variety of canopy and terrestrial birds.  Together with the spectacular weather, this was an amazing and multifaceted trip.

Notable birds seen: Inca Jay, Andean Guan, Squirrel Cuckoo, Masked Trogon, Highland Motmot, Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, Russet-Backed Oropendola, Blue-Browed Tanager.
