Saturday Birding: September 13, 2008

The weather in the highlands has been gorgeous this week, although I've been too busy at work to take much advantage of it. Despite perfectly clear weather to the east this Saturday morning, I was too tired to drive out to the upper eastern slope, even though I knew every bird from the Rufous-Bellied Seedsnipe to the Mountain Avocetbill was mostly likely out and about.

Instead I spent the morning at home cleaning and refilling the hummingbird feeders, which seemed to please the resident populations of Sparkling Violetear and Western Emerald. In return, the former posed casually in the hibiscus outside the window; the resultant photographs capture the Violetear's namesake nicely, speaking volumes about the nature of iridescence as well.
