Andean Condor Gallery

A classic experience in Antisana Reserve yielded these photographs of two of the remaining Andean Condors in Ecuador. While visiting the reserve is a relatively easy half day trip from Quito, on this adventure we hiked in from Papallacta and spent a night at the base of a just peak nearby the glaciered goliath Antisana. The weather was spectacularly clear all weekend except for a fine haze surrounding the mountain at midday, which was of course just when these condors sailed past the ridge we were ascending. Although some in our party had seen a condor soaring overhead before, no one had imagined ever hearing the wind rip through their feathers as they glided by at arm's reach.
